August the 12th marks the start of the grouse shooting season.

Netherwood Estate has a team of experienced
keepers and abides by the best principals of
moorland management practice, including a regular programme of heather burning, provision of medicated grit and control of vermin. Consequently there was a shootable surplus of grouse throughout the 1990s reaching a high point of nearly 700 brace in 1997. Although the grouse population have since depleted due to a large moorland fire, numbers are restoring each year.
